Spanish Tax Services

For British Residents on the Costa del Sol

Living in Spain while still earning income from the UK creates tax obligations in both countries.

I help British residents on the Costa del Sol manage their Spanish tax correctly — including annual tax returns, autónomo filings, and overseas asset reporting — while coordinating everything with their UK position.

Every Spanish tax resident is required to file an annual income tax return — the Declaración de la Renta — declaring all income received worldwide during the previous tax year.

Many British expats are surprised to learn that Spain taxes residents on worldwide income, not just Spanish income.

For British residents this typically includes:

  • UK rental income

  • UK pension income (state, private, or occupational)

  • Spanish employment or self-employment income

  • Investment income and dividends from either country

  • Any other worldwide income above the filing threshold

The return is filed with the Agencia Tributaria each spring, covering the previous calendar year. I manage the entire process — gathering the information, preparing the return, applying the correct reliefs under the UK-Spain Double Taxation Treaty, and filing on your behalf.

In most cases, the UK-Spain Double Taxation Treaty prevents the same income from being taxed twice — but the returns must be prepared correctly in both countries.
The treaty is there to prevent that — but it must be applied correctly on both your UK and Spanish returns simultaneously. That coordination is central to what I do.

Modelo 720 — Overseas Assets Declaration

British residents in Spain with assets held outside of Spain — including UK property, bank accounts, investments, or pension funds above certain thresholds — may be required to file a Modelo 720 declaration with the Agencia Tributaria.

This is a purely informational declaration rather than a tax return, but the penalties for failing to file or filing incorrectly are significant.

If you hold UK assets and are unsure whether you have a Modelo 720 obligation, this is something I can assess as part of an initial consultation.

Quarterly Tax & IVA Submissions (Autónomos)

If you are self-employed in Spain — registered as autónomo — you are required to submit quarterly declarations to the Agencia Tributaria throughout the year, not just at year end.

This includes:

  • Modelo 130 — quarterly income tax payments (IRPF)

  • Modelo 303 — quarterly IVA (VAT) returns, where applicable

  • Modelo 390 — annual IVA summary

  • Modelo 100 — annual income tax return

Managing these deadlines correctly is essential. Missed or incorrect submissions attract penalties from the Agencia Tributaria, and errors in quarterly payments affect your year-end position.

I handle the preparation and submission of all quarterly and annual obligations for autónomo clients, keeping everything on track throughout the year.

A Different Approach

Most gestors handle the Spanish side efficiently but have no visibility of your UK position. Most UK accountants have no knowledge of the Spanish system at all. That gap is where mistakes happen.

I bridge both sides — Spanish filings are prepared in coordination with a locally qualified Spanish tax specialist with over 15 years’ experience in Andalucía.

You get one clear, coordinated service without the confusion of managing two separate advisors.

Who This Is For

This service is designed for British individuals living on the Costa del Sol who are:

  • Spanish tax residents with UK income to declare

  • Self-employed or running a business in Spain as an autónomo

  • Recently relocated and unsure of their Spanish filing obligations

  • Previously managing their Spanish tax alone or through a gestor with no UK knowledge

If you also have UK tax obligations, I handle both sides — so you do not need to coordinate between separate advisors in two different countries.

Ongoing Support & Monthly Retainer

For clients who want continuous support rather than annual compliance, a monthly retainer is available from €95 per month.

This includes:

  • Year-round tax planning across both UK and Spain

  • Quarterly submission management for autónomo clients

  • Questions answered as they arise

  • Proactive advice as your circumstances change

This is where the service moves beyond filing returns and into proper, ongoing tax and financial coordination.
